Bookshop: eating between the lines
It’s name is Bookshop, but this stationery-store-turned-cafe located opposite Marmara Koleji in Bitez embodies both of these roles, and more. The cheerful spot is not only a tip-top bakery and busy local hangout, it also displays and sells a variety of works by Bodrum designers and craftsmen.

After leaving Istanbul for Bodrum, founder Sevda Yeles poured her heart and soul into this new project, ensuring it was as warm and welcoming as the owner herself. The laidback, constantly changing spot very much fits into its surroundings. The bakery has no regular menu but there is always a delicious, fresh pastry coming out of the oven the moment you arrive. It is hard to believe that Yeles offers breakfast and fills custom orders for pastries and desserts, all from a tiny kitchen at the back of her shop. The shop’s stock has slowly evolved from a variety of stationery products to jewelry and accessories. At the moment, Bookshop offers handbags by Love&Can Bag, silver jewelry from Atölye 4D and Berrin Tarim, handmade notebooks by Elif Ergül, and beach bags by Esma Bodrum, among other items. Let’s not forget the books, although with so much going on on the shelves, they appear secondary, despite the place’s name.

This is a bright, pleasant spot that’s sure to make customers feel right at home. Yeles’ children, who attend the school across the street, seem to think so as well. The moment their classes are over, they can be seen running straight to the store gleefully.

Open Monday-Saturday, 9am-6pm. Kanuni Sultan Süleyman Caddesi No.51/1, Bodrum; T: 0533 218 96 89; I: @bookshopbodrum
