Gümüşlük is set amid tangerine groves and boasts a shoreline of delicious seafood restaurants offering primo views. Roughly translating to a form of silver, Ottoman Admiral Piri Reis wrote in the 1520s that Gümüşlük earned its name from flourishing silver mines that existed there during the reign of Sultan Mehmed II. However the locals argue that it got its name from the silvery light emitted from the phosphorescent sea at night.
