Picture this: it’s Friday afternoon, the first day of your Bodrum holidays. You’ve just disembarked from the plane and, although it was just a short flight, the initial excitement is giving way to fatigue. How do you get yourself back in a festive mood? The answer is a stopover in Güvercinlik on your way from the airport.
With the nearest multiple-starred resort still a drive/sail away, this little village is no tourism hot spot. But it is the perfect place to stop in for a local seafood dinner, or simply a “welcome to Bodrum” tea at the waterfront garden. Soaking in the sea breeze and gazing at the old fishing boats docked nearby will be enough to rid you of the travel torpor and send you tripping off merrily to your final destination.
How to get there
Güvercinlik is located on Muğla-Bodrum highway, approximately 15 km from Milas-Bodrum airport.
Where to stay
With 542 rooms and a minimalist decor, La Blanche Island also has tennis courts, chess and billiard rooms, table tennis, water sports, and an aqua park for children. Pina Peninsula Güvercinlik; T: 0252 322 00 00; www.lablanchehotel.com
